About Maria K. Art Therapist
About Maria - Art Therapist in Adelaide Hills
I have been working within the community, in a variety of settings, for almost four decades. My goal has always been to connect with others in a way that hopefully brings some joy and positive change into their lives.

Both my private and professional experiences of mental health and other health issues have helped grow my understanding of people's uniqueness, as well as their challenges and vulnerabilities.
It's my aim to 'make a difference' through simple acts and gestures, through patience and understanding, and through being present and non-judgemental of others' personal journeys.

Transition to Art Therapy:

My move from Psychology into Art Therapy was based upon my learning and understanding that Art Therapy can be an extremely effective and creative modality, which enables the expression of story without the need for words. Art Therapy can be used for working with people of all ages, and backgrounds, who present with a variety of concerns and challenges.

Professional Experience:
I have worked as an Art Therapist in Private Practice at Abergeldie House, Glen Osmond. During this time, I was listed as a preferred therapist for students of the Ikon Institute’s Transpersonal Art Therapy programme. I also undertook group sessions within the dementia wing of a local Aged Care facility. More recently I have worked as a volunteer Art Therapist within a community school setting.

Supportive Roles:

My other roles have included working as a mental health Peer Support Worker (SA Health), as an Individual Care Support worker within Aged Care, and as a private Support Worker with clients in the community (Qld and SA).
